Does depression have to be a part of leaving a long-held job?
With the transfer of power in our country just days away I’m wondering how the current president may feel a few weeks from now.
I know when I left CNN, it took a long time to stop referring to “we” when talking about the network. So much of my identity was wrapped up in what I did, not who I am.
Changing lanes after working in the same job for years can be a shock. I know the change of pace from the newsroom to normal life was a huge shift for me.
It’s a good reminder that we are not defined by what we do, but rather by who we are. Remembering this may keep depression at bay when big changes occur in our lives.
